Lesson Seven

Continuum of Time is a collection of singer / multi-instrumentalist scott crow’s seminal Texas darkwave project Lesson Seven. The album compiles Lesson Seven’s best-known tracks, covers, demos and new songs and guest vocals from Psyche. Continuum of Time is being released December 16 on all streaming platforms, CD , as a digital download via Bandcamp by the Austin, Texas based eMERGENCY heARTS label. There’ll be a limited edition of 25 picturediscs of Clan of Xymox’s remix of “Crown.”

The majority of the songs were originally recorded by crow between 1988-1992 and feature strategic samples, driving synthesizers and heavy bass. scott’s lyrics are introspective, existential and poetic, contemplating barbed wire, desolate strip malls… the landscape apocalyptic America. Their original releases of this music earned Lesson Seven spots touring with Nine Inch Nails (Hate 1990) and Skinny Puppy (VIVI sect IV 1988) as well as opening for every major industrial and post-punk band including Ministry, Meat Beat Manifesto, Clan of Xymox, Consolidated, Swans, Front Line Assembly, Legendary Pink Dots, Revolting Cocks, Laibach, Severed Heads, Die Warzau, Pigface, A Split Second and Weathermen.

2019 saw new 30th anniversary remixes of their international underground club hit ‘Radiation’ (Oak Lawn Records1989), new cover songs and the launching of the record label/media hub eMERGENCY heARTS in Austin, Texas.

As 2020 approached, crow relaunched Lesson Seven, working with various producers including Mark Pistel (Meat Beat Manifesto, Hercules & Love Affair, Consolidated), while 2021 and 2022 saw new songs and and remixes culminating in the releases of Continuum of Time to be followed by 2 remix albums Memories of the Future: Remixes//RED (Jan 2023) and Memories of the Future: Remixes//BLACK (March 2023)

These three releases feature tracks produced or remixed by Adrian Sherwood, Meat Beat Manifesto, Clan of Xymox, Front 242, Leæther Strip, Mark Stewart (Pop Group, Tackhead), Consolidated, David Starfire, Dead Voices on Air, MC 900 Ft. Jesus, Televangel, Information Society and more

Lesson Seven currently comprises crow and various guest musicians and producers.

Along with music, crow is a longtime anarchist author and activist in the anti-fascist, environmental and mutual aid realms. Crow released his first critically acclaimed and influential book Black Flags and Windmills (PM Press 2011). The 2nd edition was picked as NPR’s  ‘Top Summer Reads 2015’ and has been translated into 5 languages. This was followed by his second, and controversial best seller book Setting Sights: Histories and Reflections on Community Armed Defense (PM Press 2017) and compendium of interviews Emergency Hearts, Molotov Dreams: A scott crow Reader (GTK Press 2018). scott crow’s music and writing have taken him all over the world speaking.  He has been featured in the New York Times, NPR, Der Spiegel, CNN, RT News, Mother Jones, Rolling Stone, VICE and Democracy Now!

Crow’s book Black Flags and Windmills: Hope, Anarchy and the Common Ground Collective tells the harrowing story of him going to help his friend in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and leading him co-founding the internationally influential anarchist mutual aid organization Common Ground Collective. Equal parts memoir, history, and organizing philosophy, Black Flags and Windmills vividly intertwines crow’s experiences and ideas, with Katrina’s reality, illustrating how people can build local grassroots power for collective power after disasters.
